John Lewis has announced plans to develop its redundant retail estate for new homes. Whilst its style may have been dissed by the PM's wife, many middle-Englanders will be hoping that this puts their favourite store back on the road to a profitable existence. And it does tick a lot of planning policy boxes: brownfield; building up; reducing car travel (if taking away car parking); mixed use; retail repurposing; new homes and affordable housing to name a few. I will be watching this space with interest.
