The PMI index for the construction industry grew for the third month in a row in November, a complete reversal of the same period last year and the strongest figures for this time of year since 2015. That growth was strong in all the main sectors; residential, commercial and civil engineering. It is not all good news, inflation in costs (both materials and wages) is accelerating, and delivery times are lengthening (as they have been for years), but as we go into what promises to be an extraordinary week in British politics and history it is important to balance the political rhetoric with pragmatism and reality.
