More freedom to spend money on housing means more use of CPO powers

If local authorities are serious about building new homes then they are going to have to get serious about land assembly.  And that means venturing into the area of compulsory purchase.  Whilst a number of authorities have shown their willingness to use these powers to good effect a large number are still wary of flexing their muscles and are are going to need a lot of encouragement.

Councils need to make more use of compulsory purchase order powers to deliver new housing in urban areas, a development corporation chief has told the Planning for Housing conference.
