There is an inevitable logic that if housebuilders are to build more homes they need to own more sites with planning permission.  But these housebuilders need to be wary, because it would not surprise me if scapegoats are sought to explain away why ambitious housing completion targets are not being met.  And an accusation of land banking could be just that.

Britain’s 10 biggest housebuilders have increased the amount of land they hold with planning permission by about a fifth during the past decade, as political pressure grows on the sector to build more homes.
