Poorly designed, installed and/or maintained building management systems have proven very lucrative to lawyers and expert consultants over the years. I have worked on a number of building disputes involving claims for substantial sums caused by a badly designed and/or installed BMS.
The risk of 'hackers' gaining access to a BMS is an interesting albeit disturbing one. The authors of this article highlight the need to 'future proof' the system. This assumes, of course, that the BMS has been designed, installed and commissioned properly in the first place.
